An initiative by the Sierra Club called Mayors for 100% Clean Energy was officially adopted yesterday, June 26, 2017 by the United States Conference of Mayors at their Annual Meeting, which took place over four days at the Fontainebleau Hotel & Resort in Miami Beach. Host Mayor, Philip Levine, is also Co-Chair of the Mayors for 100% Clean Energy program, along with the Mayors of Salt Lake City, Columbia and San Diego.
Mayor Levine, fellow Co-Chair, Mayor Stephen K. Benjamin of Columbia, SC and others held a press conference to announce the unanimous adoption of the resolution by the USCM. The measure formally establishes a commitment by the country’s Mayors to seek ways to meet the goal of 100% renewable or clean energy by the year 2035.
The full list of Mayors currently backing the program can be found on Sierra Club’s website, as well as a petition to forward to your local Mayor.
