Beach Hotel That Hosted Beatles Catches Fire

An electrical fire caused by a generator on the exterior of the Deauville Beach Resort Hotel, located on 67th street and Collins Avenue on Miami Beach, resulted in the evacuation of hundreds of guests and staff. The hotel will be closed until building inspectors and engineers confirm it is safe to reopen.

Built in 1957, the Deauville has a genuine claim to fame in the annals of American pop culture as the site of the Beatles’ famous performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Other notable celebrities that graced its Napoleon Ballroom in the resort’s heyday were Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Judy Garland.
