Time Is Running Out for Haitians Granted TPS

The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted to Haitians fleeing their devastated country after the 2010 earthquake is in limbo now as the deadline for an extension came and went on Monday, July 24.

Marleine Bastien, Executive Director of Haitian Women of Miami, called on her fellow countrymen to remain calm and participate in the process during a rally held in Miami. U.S. Representative, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, expressed her belief that a path to citizenship should be offered to those who are already here. But, many are hiding out, afraid they will be deported along with hundreds of thousands of other people in January, as planned by the Trump administration.
